Rosellen Lockwood Gowdy, 91, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2016 surrounded by her family and much love. She was born January 1, 1925 in Cottage Grove, Oregon to Emma Caroline Schneider and Ernest Channing Lockwood. After losing both of her doting parents, she moved to Yakima, Washington to live with loving relatives. It was a happy time in her life, living on a working apple orchard and attending Cowiche High School. It was there she met some of her dearest life-long friends. Upon graduation, Rosellen attended Central Washington College in Ellensburg, WA. After moving to Seattle, Washington, she met and married Clifford Ross Gowdy on December 29, 1948. They were devoted parents, raising two daughters in Seattle, Lisa and Carolyn.

Later in life, after working in various office positions and raising a family, Rosellen became a very successful realtor in the Seattle neighborhood where she had lived for many years, Magnolia. She found her calling and was adored by her clients. In 2000 she and Clifford moved to Iowa City to be close to her granddaughters, Hannah and Abby. They were the light of her life and she made a profoundly loving impact on their lives. Rosellen loved Iowa City and the beautiful open landscape surrounding it. Many were drawn to Rosellen's beautiful, sparkling spirit, and she quickly made wonderful friends in her new home. She will be missed deeply.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Gowdy and Lisa Gowdy Merrill, her son-in-law, Christopher Merrill, and her granddaughters Hannah and Abby Merrill of Iowa City, IA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clifford in 2000.

An informal gathering to celebrate Rosellen's life will take place on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at 2pm, Historic Phillips House, 721 N Linn St (between Ronald and Brown) in Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice.
