After living a life of love, passion and service, Howard Erwin Fleer passed away at his daughter’s home on Monday, February 22, 2016, at the age of 76, after a battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE with a luncheon following. Visitation will be Friday, February 26th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne, NE. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 421N. Pearl Street, Wayne, NE 68787 or First Lutheran Church, 526 South Olive Avenue, Sandpoint, ID, 83864 A memorial service with friends and family will be scheduled at a later date in Sandpoint, ID.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Austin Fleer. Kyle Suther, Matthew Suther, Andrew Suther and godsons, Mike Fleer and Loren Ludenking.
Howard Erwin Fleer was born July 21, 1939 in Wayne, NE, the son of Erwin and Ruth (Hansen) Fleer. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wayne High in 1957. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving in Korea. On March 18, 1961, he married Sharon (Westerman). He continued farming in the Wayne, NE area until moving to Sandpoint, ID in 1990; where he worked for Lake Pend Oreille School District until he retired at age 75. Howard loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He enjoyed visiting with others and was the first to give a helping hand. Howard was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those who knew him.
He is survived by two children and their spouses, Jodi (Jerry) Suther of Tiffin, IA and Tom (Bridgette) Fleer of Sandpoint, ID; four grandsons, Austin Fleer (Gabrielle Broere – fiancée), Kyle Suther, Matthew Suther and Andrew Suther; siblings Mardelle (Delvin) Mikkelsen and Harold (Sharon) Fleer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000, his parents, sisters Carol Fleer, Lois Ludeking, and brother in-law Richard Ludeking.
