Katharine F. “Kay” Green, 90, passed away at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City on February 28, 2016, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, followed by a reception at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 3pm this day at the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Hedrick, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Kay’s memory to Oaknoll Retirement Residence or Iowa City Hospice. Katharine Ford was born on March 29, 1925, in Oak Park, Illinois the daughter of Barbara (Standish) and Frederick Perry Ford. When she was six years old, the family moved to Fairfield, IA. She was educated in the public schools in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School. She obtained her B.A. Degree in Music from Parsons College there in Fairfield.

On September 4, 1946, she married Edwin E. Green. During the years of her marriage she taught elementary and high school music, plus three high school subjects in the school districts of Richland, Batavia, Packwood, Frederika and Owasa, all in Iowa. In 1966, Kay completed her Master’s Studies in Music Education from the University of Iowa. Her final twenty-one years in teaching were in Fairfield elementary schools.

In her earlier years she was a choir director and children’s choir director in the First Christian Church in Fairfield. She was choir director as well as Sunday school teacher in the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney. Recently she has been a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Coralville; and had been attending Grace Community Church.

During her life she has enjoyed her family, and continued to correspond with many friends at Christmas time. Always having enjoyed art, she has done a great deal of acrylic painting and water color. Piano and books have been mainstays in her life.
