Barbara A. Rogers, 86 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Iowa City died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Memorial services will be held at 11am Monday, February 1, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where there will be a visitation time from 10am until services. Following services a reception will be held at the funeral home prior to going to Memory Gardens Cemetery for burial. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Barbara Alice Branson was born January 29, 1929, in Marshall County, Iowa the daughter of Claude E. and Ethel M (Recey) Branson. She was united in marriage to Billy Dean Rogers on November 26, 1948, in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple lived in Iowa City for many years before moving to Cedar Rapids. They spent many winters in Mission, Texas in their beloved “Airstream”. In this airstream, they traveled the country, enjoying the many sights, meeting new friends, and creating numerous memories they would cherish the rest of their days. Barb liked to do crossword puzzles, make jewelry for herself, was known to be quite the social butterfly with most anyone, and on occasion would shoot pool with high school kids from Metro High School when they visited Irving Point Assisted Living. She loved her family especially being grandma and great-grandma to her grandchildren!
Her family includes her three children, Lester Rogers (Amy Koppenhaver) of Cedar Rapids; Jacquelyn Lenihan (William) of Solon; and Claudette Giannetto (David) of Marion; 4 grandchildren, Jason Lenihan (Khayala), Olivia Lenihan (Chad Harvey), Jesse Giannetto and Justin Giannetto (Lindsay); and 5 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Orion, Jacob, Anntionio, and Serena.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Janet Mencl and her husband, Billy.
