David S. Moyer, 88 longtime resident of the Iowa City area died Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Iowa City Rehab and Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his memory. David Sherman Moyer was born July 12, 1927, in North English, Iowa the son of David S. and Iva E. (Good) Moyer. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. On July 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to C. Lillian Showman here in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Wellman, Joetown and since 1980 here in Iowa City. He worked a number of different jobs in the area before his employment at the Veterans Administration Hospital where he retired after 25 years of service.

David liked life simple, he enjoyed puzzles, reading, baking pastries, painting, watching sports on TV, going pheasant hunting with his same friends, and golf! He was a member of the former Fairview Golf Course since 1961, and you could find him there most days, rain or shine, snow or sleet, he loved the game of golf.

His family includes his wife, Lillian; children, Donald R. Moyer of Iowa City; Joni Caplan (Dave) of Iowa City; and Dan W. Moyer (Tonda) of North Liberty; daughter-in-law, Janet Moyer of Kaysville, Utah; grandchildren, Jeanine, Jeremy, Chris, Derek, Benjamin, and Shoshannah; great grandson, Johnathan; a sister, Marian Williamson of Osage, IA; and his brother, Robert Moyer (Carol) of South English.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John D. Moyer; 2 brothers, Ray and Dean Moyer; and his sister, Bernice Anderson.
