John G. Meyer, 76, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly Monday while shoveling snow.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville. Reverend Jeff Belger will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Tiffin.

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers and plants that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Survivors include his wife Mary; daughters, Suzy Heck (Dave) of Iowa City, Jennifer Hite (Tom) of Rockwall, Texas and Amy Hite of Benton Harbor, Michigan; brothers, Tom Meyer (Teresa) of Iowa City and Steve Meyer (Kathy) of Coralville; grandchildren, Tori Hite Seamans, Thiel and Thara Hite, Bobby, Katrina and Ryan Hite and DJ and Gage Heck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and a brother-in-law.

John had an inextinguishable love of family. He was an awesome husband - he and Mary were in separable.
An awesome dad, making time for his kids - teaching lawn care, etc, lol!
An awesome big brother.
And an awesome grandpa - he cherished his grandkids.

After his love of family came his love of football. Saturdays with the Hawkeyes and Sundays with the Cowboys. Honestly, any game on Sunday would do.

John will be deeply missed by all, but rest assured he now has the best seat in the house to cheer on his beloved Hawkeyes.
