Joyce Elaine Bettis, 80, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.

At her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, donations may be sent to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St, Iowa City, IA 52240.

Joyce was born in Vermillion, S.D., on October 22, 1935, to Robert and Winifred Geiberger. She attended Central High School in Sioux City.

She married Elmer (Art) Bettis Jr. on Feb. 16, 1952, and lived in Sioux City until 1977 when she and Art moved to Yuba City, CA, eventually settling in Merced, CA where they lived until moving to Iowa City in 2008.

Joyce enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends during the holidays and on other occasions. She loved spending time with friends and family, and especially relished the time spent with her youngest grandson, Sam.

Joyce is survived by her husband Art, two children, Art (Brenda Nations) of Iowa City, and Kimberly Visser (Frans) of Ventura, CA; her three grandchildren, Spencer Bettis, Wyatt Bettis, and Sam Visser; two great granddaughters, Sophia, and Emerald, and one sister, Doris Delier of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Geiberger and Winifred Kingsley (Geiberger).
