Donald Steven Cavuoto, 55, of North Liberty, IA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 30th, 2015. As Donald worked tirelessly to make his time here on earth longer, his battle came to an end with loved ones by his side.

Donald was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 11th, 1960. Donald was an avid lover of baseball and all things sports related. He was a lifetime New York Yankees and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and could often be found rattling off statistics or making conversation with strangers about poignant game plays. Donald loved home cooked Italian food, playing pool with friends, and spending time with his dog Jersey. Donald was blessed to be married to the love of his life, Mary; he called her the most beautiful part of him. Donald’s love for her never ended as he held her picture closely during his last few breaths of life.

Donald could often be heard above anyone, with his loud voice and charismatic nature. He was truly devoted to those he cared about, and could often be heard bragging about their accomplishments in life to others. He referred to his sister as “my angel Michele” and loved her dearly as she helped him through his most difficult days. Donald was truly one-of-a-kind, and a person that no one will ever forget. When he walked into a room, not only could you hear him, but you could feel his love for those around him.

Donald used to say “God has a book with everyone’s name in it, and in that book is the day you are supposed to be born, and the day you are supposed to pass. God had a plan for me, and if my time is to go now…that is his plan.” He was brave during his last days as he finally let go to do what he has always wanted to do again…play ball with his brother’s and have a home-cooked Italian meal made by his mother after the big game.

Survivors include his father Dominick, a sister Michele, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Donald was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis (DeRisi) Cavuoto and two brothers David and Michael.

A memorial service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 7th at Greenville Memorial Home, 374 Danforth Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07305. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The University of Iowa Foundation, c/o of the UI Children’s Hospital Fund, PO Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550, or to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240
