Robert D. “Bob” Strub, 88 of Dallas, Georgia, formerly of Iowa City, Iowa; Vero Beach, Florida; and Ocala, Florida, passed away September 1, 2015, following a brief illness.

Memorial services are planned on October 24, 2015, at 10:00am, at the Joy Lutheran Church, in Ocala, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Research, or Joy Lutheran Church in Ocala, Florida.

Bob was born February 2, 1927, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Frank and Beatrice Strub. On June 3, 1953, he married Margaret “Margee” Justen on the steps of the Johnson County Court House, in Iowa City.

After serving during WWII in the US Navy, he returned to the University of Iowa and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design. Upon graduation, after spending some time designing and installing custom kitchens, he was employed by Amana Refrigeration ultimately becoming head of Visual Design.
During this time, he received 7 patents related to Amana core businesses, most notable of which was for the ‘Stor-Mor-Door’ which epitomized the transformation of the ‘ice box’ to the modern refrigerator that we know today.

Following his time at Amana and after spending some time in the residential general contracting business, Bob saw a need for more efficient residential construction techniques. Along with some help, he created Component Homes, Inc. which designed and manufactured custom prefabricated structures. He and his brother, Don, operated this business for over 25 years and he retired in 1985.

Bob was an artist of many talents-a draftsman, an inventor, and a wood craftsman. One of his greatest joys came from building Shaker furniture to decorate their custom built family homes. Along with Margee, he constructed numerous pieces of stained glass and crafted wooden items for her to paint. He also built remote controlled airplanes and the list goes on, and on. He enjoyed all of his time away from work with his loving wife, Margee, whether it was designing a home or creating a beautiful family heirloom.

Bob was a former member of several Rotary Clubs, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the National Association of Home Builders.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend of many. He was a man who could always light a room up with his zest and sense of humor. He would always recommend “Try several ways and choose the best.”

Survivors include his brother, Frank Strub and his wife Pat of Des Moines, IA; his wife of 62 years, Margee Strub, and his children, Mike Strub and his wife Phyllis, Jill Stutsman and her husband Jim, and Lynn Justen; his grandchildren, Tyler and his fiancé, Jenna, Holly, Abby, Katie, Bradley and his wife, Tiffany, Kelli and Molli and four great grandchildren, Wyatt, Lilly, Layla and Rylin and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don.
