Dr. Perminus Mungai Mungara died on October 12, 2015 in Muscatine, Iowa, after a
brave battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, starting at 10:00AM at Lensing
Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa. The service will
begin at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials for The Dr. Perminus M. Mungara Memorial Fund can be forwarded to the funeral home at P.O. Box 167, Iowa City, Iowa, 52244.

Perminus Mungai Mungara was born on 25th August, 1962, in Kikuyu, Kiambu, Kenya.
He was the 7th child of Irene Njeri Kimana and Josephat Mungara Githinji. He was
baptized at an early age at Orthodox African church, Kikuyu.

He started his education at Kanjeru primary school, followed by O-levels at Kahuho high
school, both in Kiambu. He completed his A-levels at Njiris high school, Murang'a.
Thereafter, he studied for his bachelors and masters degrees at University of Nairobi, and later graduated with a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Connecticut.

He went for his post-doctorate research at Iowa state University in Ames, Iowa, where he later became a research scientist. At the time of his death he was a research scientist at Grain Processing Corporation in Muscatine, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife Alice; his two daughters Njeri and Ngonyo; his father, Josphat Mungara Githinji; siblings, Shadrack Kimana, Lucy Njoroge, Cephas Njoroge, Keshia Nyokabi, Samuel Kimacia Nancy Wangui, Eunice Njambi and Joseph Githinji, all of Kenya and Anne Mung'ara, Josphine Muchene and Esther Wanja, all of Boston.
