Frank C. "Cookie" Shimon, 88, died Friday morning, August 20, 2004, in the Solon Nursing Care Center following a lingering illness. Services: 10:30am Monday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, by the Rev. David Wilkening.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post 460 honoring Cookie at the graveside. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7pm Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Solon, with a Catholic Order of Forresters rosary at 6:30pm, followed by a parish vigil service at 7pm.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; and a daughter, Sally Beretta (John) of Urbandale; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles and Clarence.

Frank C. "Cookie" Shimon was born October 18, 1915, in Solon, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Sedlacek) Shimon. He married Ann Novy on October 11, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and a member of the American Legion Stinocher Post 460, St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Forresters, and CWA/ITU 7101.

Cookie worked as a printer for the Cedar Rapids Gazette for 33 years until his retirement. He later worked for Brosh Chapel for 10 years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name in care of T.L. Glen, Unit 1, 723 South Market Street, Solon, Iowa 52333-8821.
