TAMERIUS, MADDEN

Donald Dean Tamerius, 50, of Iowa City died suddenly on Friday, July 17, 2015 at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Donald was born on September 9, 1964 in Iowa City, the son of Andrew and Gloria Madden Tamerius.

He spent his first few days fighting for his life in an incubator at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. As he grew, he became a fierce competitor in the Special Olympics and we cheered as he excelled in the 50-yard dash and other events.

His love of cars led to hours of slot car racing with his brother, whom he regularly bested. Race tracks were then replaced by rails, as he assembled his model train layout, taking joy in creating his own miniature world where he was the engineer, conductor, ticket- taker, signalman and landscaper.

Donald graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1983, an achievement he was very proud of, but he continued to enjoy watching the West High Trojans AND rival City High School football teams compete every chance he could.

As he grew to adulthood, he entered a workforce that at that time didn't always know what to do with someone of his particular skill set. Donald knew that he would always give 100%, the challenge became convincing others that 100% effort meant something, and he did. He became a valued employee of Walgreens pharmacy for over ten years and made many friends there.

Friends. Everyone Donald met was his friend. His loyalty was unquestioned.

We will miss him and always remember his kindness, pure heart, and loving soul. And that goofy laugh that we never got tired of hearing.

He is survived by his brother, Dan (Michele) of Iowa City, and niece, Alexandra of Madison, Wisconsin; his aunt, Betty Madden of Tiffin; and cousins: Joe, JoAnne, Cecilia, Theresa, Jane, and Tom.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
