Jane Black, 84, 2362 Willowbrooke Lane, Iowa City, died on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at home with her family by her side.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 10:00 am at Lensing Funeral Service, Iowa City with Rev. Catherine Luck of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meals-on-Wheels.

Jane Jackson was born July 8, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Hugh R. Jackson and Edythe Schirmer. She was a 1937 graduate of City High School in Iowa City, and attended the University of Iowa. Jane married G. Richard Black February 23rd, 1940 in Iowa City. They lived and farmed in West Lucas and Union Township until his passing March 18, 1986.

Jane enjoyed collecting antiques, and had an extensive doll collection. She loved gathering with her close friends weekly to play bridge. She also enjoyed reading, and solving crossword puzzles. Jane was a member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan, attending men’s basketball and football games for several years.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven R. Black and wife Phyllis of Iowa City and Daniel H. Black and wife Minette of Iowa City. Three grandchildren, Todd Black and wife Shanda South of Iowa City, Renee Van Dee and husband Darin of Deep River, Iowa, and Bryan Black of Iowa City. A brother-in-law Ray McDonald of Purcellville, Virginia; a niece Cathryn McCoy and husband Charles of Seabrook, Maryland; and a nephew Phillip McDonald and wife Glenda of Arlington, Virginia; a great nephew, Christopher McDonald and a great niece, Kimberly McDonald.

Her husband G. Richard, sister Shirley (Jackson) McDonald and her parents preceded Jane in death.
