Jessie Virginia Layman, 98, formerly of the Sarah Harding Home in Clinton, died January 21, 2004 in Iowa City.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. The Lensing Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie was born June 27, 1905, in Elizabethtown, Ky., to E.E. and Josephine (Morrison) Miller. She married Wendell M. Layman in 1927. He died in 1982.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Burlington where she served on the Altar Guild. She also was a member of King's Daughters.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Joan (Don) Johnson of Fulton, Ill.; Thomas (Brenda) Layman of Iowa City and Jon (Donna) Layman of Herman, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother.

Memorials may be made to the Sarah Harding Home in Clinton, or Christ Episcopal Church in Burlington.
