Dale D. Walker, 75, of Iowa City, died Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

A gathering time for family and friends will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial and a private graveside service will be Friday, January 30,2004 at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veteran’s Home, 1301 Summit Street, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158 or to the Johnson County Humane Society, 410 East Washington, Iowa City, Iowa 52240

Dale was born on February 26, 1928 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Dudley and Bessie Holle Walker. He was raised in Rock Island and had resided in the Quad City area for most of his life, until moving to Iowa City in 1998.

Dale was a graduate of St. Ambrose University and had been a provisions manager and accountant with the Oscar Mayer Company for over 35 years.

He served in the US Army from 1946 to 1948.

Survivors include,Two sons, Tim and his wife Pam of Iowa City and Buz and his wife Rita of Rock Island, Illinois; one daughter, Katherine Cleve and her husband Mark of Bettendorf, Iowa; his former wife Joan E. Walker of Davenport; his brother, Howard K. Walker and his wife, Shirley of Rock Island; hisgrandchildren, Ellen Winters, Zachary and Gretchen Cleve, Kelly Barnes, and Corey Patterson; and by special friend Trudy Daley of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his one-eyed cat Mabel.

His family is enormously grateful for the excellent care he received at the Iowa Veteran’s Home.
