Charles H. “Charlie” Plate, 37, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly Friday, January 18, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City from cancer.

Services will begin Wednesday at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Reverends Barrie Tritle and Kenneth Royar will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Charles Plate Memorial Fund.

Charlie was born March 3, 1975 in Iowa City, the son of Harold and Nancy (Lord) Plate. Growing up in Iowa City, Charlie graduated from Iowa City West High School and received an associate degree in criminal justice from Hamilton (Kaplan) University. For 5 years, Charlie worked as a custodian at Shimek Elementary in Iowa City. Charlie was currently working in receiving at Paul’s Discount in Iowa City.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an Eagle Scout. He very much enjoyed his outings with the Classy Chassy Car Club.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Nancy of Iowa City;
brother and sisters, Terri Lowrance (Rex) of Roscoe, Illinois, Dennis Plate of Iowa City, Diane Stastny (friend Carlos Trevino) of Cedar Rapids and Janice Cohenour (Todd) of Cedar Rapids;
4 nieces and nephews, Justin, Jennifer, Andrew and Abbigail.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a brother Timothy.
