Doris Colbert King, 95 of Waterloo, formerly of North Liberty died Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial to follow at the Springfield Cemetery in What Cheer, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to either Cedar Valley Hospice or Friendship Village of Waterloo. Doris Thompson was born December 27, 1917, in Mahaska County, Iowa the daughter of Ivan and Gladys (Parke) Thompson. She attended schools in Delta, Iowa. In 1934 she married Everett “Pete” Colbert in Monticello, Iowa. Pete died in 1966. She married Cecil King in 1978 in North Liberty. Cecil died in 1986. For many years she worked as a cook at Hospital School and Oakdale through the University of Iowa Hospitals. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coralville; Madison and Penn Townships Farm Bureau, the Whippoorwills and Sara Hart.

Her family includes her children, Betty (Robert) Hellman of Waterloo; and Max (Renee) Colbert of North Liberty; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Everett Colbert; sisters, Ellen Jones and Mary Louise Thompson; and brothers, Elmer, James and John Thompson.
