Darlene (Kennicott) Fairchild was born October 15, 1918, in Bunker Hill, KS; daughter of Harold and Edith (Mowery) Kennicott. She married Myrle D. Fairchild on March 19, 1939, in Russell, KS. They lived in Omaha for many years and in 2004 moved to the Iowa City area to be closer to their family. Darlene had a talent with a needle and thread; and for many years worked when needed as a seamstress, as well as a bookkeeper. She was also an avid collector, collecting thimbles, hand bags and other items that she saw value in. Most of all, Darlene was a talker; she knew no stranger and could always be counted on for a good conversation! She cherished and loved her family, and conveyed that love throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her love.

Her family includes her daughter, Randy McClanahan of Iowa City; granddaughters, Jesse McClanahan-Ruhinda and her husband, Eria of Iowa City, IA and Keri Ann Givens and her husband, Joel of Kansas City, MO; two great-grandchildren, Abbott and Bennett McClanahan-Ruhinda; daughter-in-law, Lois Fairchild of Jefferson City, MO, and niece, Marilyn Lou Durham and her husband, Bill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and son, Rick Fairchild.

Darlene’s family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care provided to her by Dr. Sarin, Dr. Eberly, Dr. Ovrom and the staff and nurses at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and wish to say, Thank You! They would also like to thank the staff and fellow residents at Walden Place where Darlene had many friends these past years.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Darlene’s family and her arrangements.
