Dale H. “Lucky” Brown Sr. age 75 of rural Oxford died at his home Tuesday, December 16, 2003 following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the Life Tabernacle UPCI Church in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church which is located at 4187 Dane Road. A memorial fund has been established in Dale’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Dale’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Dale was born July 31, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Harlie O. and Pearl Houchins Brown. During WW II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army. He married LaVina Augustine on September 12, 1958 in Rock Island, Illinois. For many years, he worked as a bus driver for Iowa City Coach Company driving for the city of Iowa City and for the schools. He later worked as a security guard for a number of security companies in this area. He and his wife, LaVina were charter members of the Life Tabernacle Church, where they have been so active for nearly thirty years. “Lucky” enjoyed music, playing his guitars, and singing country and gospel with friends and family.

His family includes his wife, LaVina; children, Marie Owen and her husband, Montie of North Liberty, Dale H. Brown Jr. and his wife, Peggy of North Liberty, Ramona Brown of Cedar Rapids, and LaFay H. Brown and his wife, Toni of Pacific Junction, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter; and 9 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, and 1 granddaughter.
