Dorothy Von Huben Stone, of Iowa City, formerly of Mason City, died peacefully Friday, November 16, 2012 surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30pm, Monday, at the First Congregational Church in Mason City. Inurnment will be in the Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church, 100 First St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401, Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240 or the Oaknoll Foundation, 1 Oaknoll Court, Iowa City, IA 52256. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Oaknoll Retirement Center.
Dorothy was born July 30, 1921 in Chicago, the daughter of Adolph and Margaret Jacob Von Huben. She was a graduate of Morgan Park Junior College and attended Park College and Northwestern University. Dorothy met her husband Robert while attending Park College. They were married on February 9, 1944 in Chicago. Robert was a graduate of the Chicago Theological Seminary. In 1956, after establishing Manor Community Church in Chicago they moved to Mason City where Robert became the pastor of First Congregational Church.
Dorothy liked to travel, play bridge and spend time with her family. She was a member of PEO and a life long Democrat.
Dorothy and Robert moved to Iowa City in 2001 where they were residents of the Oaknoll Retirement Center and attended First Congregational Church.
Survivors include her two children, Judith ( Philip) Levitt of Iowa City and Timothy (Donna) Stone of Albuquerque, NM; her granddaughter, Jean (Chris) Levitt Burke of Denver; great grandsons, Vaughn and Peter; her sister Grace Schultz of Chicago; nieces and nephews, Maryann, Linda, Paul (Sheree), Cathy, Steve (Dianna), Mark (Pam), Paula (John); sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Joyner; numerous extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her brother Frederick, brothers and sister-in-law, Elmer, Helen and Bruce, and her nephew, Tom.
