Ethel E. Nelson, 91 of 425 N. Dubuque Street, North Liberty, died Sunday, December 8, 2003 at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

Ethel was born July 15, 1912 near Wapello, Iowa the daughter of Melvin and Myrtle Shipman Main. She graduated from City High School in Iowa City, Iowa in 1930. She graduated from the Irish Business College in Iowa City and before marriage worked for the Telephone Co. She married John A. Nelson in Kahoka Missouri in 1935. They farmed south of Iowa City for a number of years before moving to Colorado. In Iowa Ethel worked for Eicher flowers and the University of Iowa. While living in Boulder she worked for the University of Colorado in the Psychology Department. In 1977 she retired from the A.C. Nielsons Neodata Service Company in Boulder, Colorado. After the death of her husband, Ethel lived in Ft. Collins, Colorado where she enjoyed babysitting, gardening and her many friends. In 1994 she moved back to Iowa and lived in North Liberty to be near her family and friends.

She is survived by her one son, Robert Nelson of Oregon; two daughters Patricia Harvey and her husband Robert of Belle Fourch, South Dakota and Gayle J. Nelson of North Liberty. Six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special family in Fort Collins, Dennis and Nancy Marion and their daughters Kelly and Kristi. And also a special adopted daughter Pam Ferguson of North Liberty, Iowa.

Her parents, her husband, one half brothers, Charles Fisher, three half sisters, Lillian Lenz, Beulah Johnson and Gayle Pieper all preceded her in death.
