Maynard E. Welk, 86 of 707 Brown Street died peacefully on November 24, 2003 at his home.

Maynard was born December 7, 1916 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Edward R. and Dolly (Longstreth) Welk. He graduated from Muscatine High School. On September 10, 1938 he married Isabelle Ruth Webster. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a salesman for Cudahy Meat Packing Co.

Maynard was an avid Cub Fan. He had a great love for and volunteered at the Iowa City Senior Center. Memorials may be directed to The Iowa City Senior Citizen Center. His mission in life was playing billiards and loving his two granddaughters, Shauna and Robyn.

Survivors include his two sons, Jerry Welk and his wife Joyce of Camdenton, Missouri and Todd Welk and his wife Connie of Iowa City, Iowa. Two granddaughters, Shauna and Robyn, one half brother, Richard Welk and one half sister, Donna Kay Gricus. He is also survived by a special friend June Maluchnik
