Alvin “Al” Christner, age 79 of Independence, MO formerly of Kalona died Saturday, November 22, 2003, at his home in Independence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Rodney Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Lone Tree. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home. Following the services at the cemetery, there will be a reception held at the Hills Chapel of Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, everyone is welcome. A memorial fund has been established in Al’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Al’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Alvin was born April 18, 1924, in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Abner and Charlotte “Lottie” Brenneman Christner. He was raised in the Kalona area and has lived in a number of other places throughout his life, including Omaha, Nebraska where he worked for W.N. Morehouse Trucking Company for many years. On June 1, 1990, he married Patricia (Hora) Goody in Iowa City.

His family includes his wife, Patricia, children, Janice Harned of Lynwood, IL, Richard Christner of Clarksville, MI, Marvin Christner of Homewood, IL, Thomas Christner of Lake Odessa, MI, Phyllis Wlos of Lansing, MI, Dorvin Christner of LaPorte, IN, Ronald Christner of New Llano, LA, Roger Christner of Valapariso, IN, Frederick Goody of Willows, CA, Wendy Mahan of Independence, MO, Richard Goody of Iowa City, Debra Schwartz of Coralville, and Timothy Goody of Iowa City; 32 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two brothers, George Christner of New Philadelphia, OH, and Joe Christner of Iowa City, and a sister, Esther Fuller of Fresno, CA.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, and two grandchildren.
