Jacqueline "Jackie" Frost Knapp, 87, of Iowa City, died, Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 9th, 2012, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City with a time for visitation 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 8th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given in her name to the Congregational Church of Iowa City, Iowa City Hospice or the Oaknoll Foundation. Jackie was born in Syracuse, NY July 11, 1924, daughter of J.N "Jack" and Louise (Perrine) Frost. They lived briefly in Waterloo, NY and finally located in Ithaca NY where Jackie attended high school, graduating at 17. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO then returned to Ithaca and graduated from Cornell University in 1944, in an accelerated wartime curriculum.
In the waning years of WWII she worked in the General Electric factory in Schenectady, NY.
In July 20, 1946 Jackie married L.W. "Pete" Knapp. While raising their children she remained involved in the community, including being a Member of the Board of Ithaca's Food Co-op, the President of the PTA and a Member of the Board of her college sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Jackie and her family moved to Iowa City in 1959 when her husband joined the faculty of the University of Iowa College of Medicine. From 1964 -1973 Jackie was the Admissions Supervisor
for the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry and Law. Upon retiring three people were employed to continue her job in the Office of Admissions at the University of Iowa.

She was an active member in many University and Community associations in Iowa City, including being a past president of the University Club and The Triangle Club. A member of the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, Jackie was a 50-year member of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Iowa City and continued her commitment to Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority as an advisor.
An avid bridge player, she participated in several groups that met weekly. Jackie also belonged to several book clubs that permitted her to pursue two of her great interests, reading and the study of history.
Jackie was married for 65 years to her husband L.W. Pete Knapp, Jr. and is survived by him and other family members, including her daughter Deborah (Dean Shannon) Knapp, son, Christopher (Vernette) Knapp, grandson Thomas Knapp all of Iowa City, grandson Andrew Knapp of Coralville, her brother Francis Frost and niece Brenda Payne of Ithaca, N.Y and sister in law Sandra (Don) Swenson and niece Mara Swenson of Mt Vernon, Iowa.
Her parents and a nephew, Brian Frost, preceded her in death.
The family wishes to thank the entire Oaknoll staff and Hospice of Iowa City for their loving and attentive care of Jackie during her final illness.
