DEATH TAKES IOWA PIONEER

Mrs. Joseph Walker Dies Early Monday At Home Here

Mrs. Joseph Walker died at her home at 408 South Summit street at 1:30 o'clock Monday morning after a lingering illness of several months duration.

Mrs. Walker was born near Solon on November 28, 1859, the daughter of Moses and Sarah J. Adams, who settled in this county in 1838. She was educated in the public schools and taught in the rural schools of this county.

On February 22, 1883, she was united in marriage with Joseph Walker, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Walker founded a home in Pleasant Valley township in 1837.

About 20 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Walker moved to Iowa City. Previous to coming here, they resided on their farm in Pleasant Valley township.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Walker of 406 South Summit street and one son, Lieut. Commander Myron J. Walker of Parkhurst, New Jersey. Three children, Fred, Bernice and Ralph, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Iowa City, a member and past regent of Pilgrim chapter, Daughter's of the American Revolution, of Athens Historical society and I.F.E. club. She was an active and enthusiastic worker for the civic betterment of her city and the many organizations with which she was affiliated. All of her long and useful life was passed in Johnson county and for many years she was prominently identified with numerous noteworthy projects in the community.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Oathout Funeral home with Rev. W.P. Lemon, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in charge. Interment will be at Oakland cemetery. Friends may view the remains at the home, 406 South Summit street on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
