Florence LaBar Reed, 96, of 1130 Vesper Drive, Ft. Myers, Florida died Friday, October 24, 2003, surrounded by her loving family at Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon, Iowa..

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2003 at the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Ft Myers, Florida with the Reverend Grant from the Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ft. Myers. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and to honor the loving care Florence received from Iowa City Hospice, friends may if they wish contribute in her memory to the hospice of their choice.

Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Reed Snead and Robert Snead of Ft. Myers; grandchildren, Janice O’Callaghan and her husband, Peter of Naperville, IL, Lorraine Machacek and her husband, Richard of Marion, IA, Robert Snead and his wife, Suzanne of Oxford Junction, IA, and John Snead and life partner, Mike McGee of San Francisco, CA; four great-grandchildren, Derek and Chelsea Snead and Rachel and Jack O’Callaghan.

Her beloved husband, Henry; parents, John and Florence LaBar and her brother, Vincent LaBar, preceded her in death.

Florence was born April 7, 1907, in New Brunswick, NJ the daughter of John and Florence (Grey) LaBar. She married Henry Reed of Point Pleasant, NJ on May 11, 1934. Henry and Florence lived in Morristown, NJ where they both worked for the State of New Jersey at Greystone Park Hospital until their retirement in 1968.

Following their retirement Florence and Henry moved to Ft. Myers where Florence was active in the local AARP chapter, the Audubon Society, and the C-Belles. Florence was for thirty-five years a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
