Bess Marie (Woods) Wenman 77, of Iowa City, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2012. There will be no services.

She was born in Joetown, Iowa on March 22, 1935. Bess moved to Iowa City at 5 years of age to become a lifelong resident. She worked in various health care facilities.

Bess raised six children and is survived by 5 of them; Allen Hostetler (Roxann) of Nichols, Iowa, Lynn (Eugene) Melvin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carol Martin of Iowa City, John of Salt Lake City, Utah and Mary of Plano, Texas.

Bess is preceded in death by her parents, all of her brothers, her twins; Karen and Michael. She is preceded in death also by John Schlabaugh Sr., Stanley Hostetler Sr., and her husband of 37 years, Lloyd “Smoke” Wenman.

Bess has 8 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren; Jacob and Nicholas Wisk, Andrew Hostetler, Gabrielle Miller, Makinley Galvan.

Bess and Smoke were familiar to many who often saw them walking or having coffee at McDonald’s.
There will be an informal gathering of family, at the American Legion post on Muscatine Avenue on Saturday, February 25 from 2-5 p.m., if friends would like to stop and visit.
