Robert “Bob” W. Hale, 82, of Iowa City died peacefully at Mercy Hospital on Thursday, February 2, 2012.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday February 5th from 11-1 pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. His remains will be buried at the National Military Cemetery in Rock Island.

Bob was born to Anna M. and William P. Hale on August 10th 1929 in Cedar Rapids. He attended Roosevelt High School, Iowa State College, and the University of Iowa. Bob married Darilyn Dee Meyer of Grundy Center, Iowa in 1953.

He was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Bob served in a Navy ASW squadron during the Korean War. He was employed by Oral-B labs in Iowa City, retiring in 1991. Bob also served as a junior Achievement Advisor in Iowa City. He enjoyed sports, travel, cooking, and especially retirement.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, son Scott (Kelli) of Iowa City, daughter-in law Kris, and grandchildren Katie and Patrick Hale of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his son Major Jeff Hale, USAF Ret, his parents, and 4 very close friends; Bob Melonovsky and Dale Gosch of Cedar Rapids; Lowell Edmondson and Bob Burich both of Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to: Iowa City Hospice, Camp Eastman Development Association (Scouting), National Alliance on Mental Illness (MAMI), and American Heart Association.
