Donald J. Quint, 86, of Iowa City, died peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, February 6 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Michael T. Phillips officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice of Iowa City.
Don was born on April 22, 1925 in Worthington, IA, the son of Nick and Frances (Warburg) Quint. He was raised on the family farm in Worthington and later moved to Winthrop, IA where the family continued to farm.
On September 16, 1947, Don married Donna Fry in Lamont, IA, where the couple lived for a short period of time until moving back to Winthrop, and later moving to Iowa City in 1971. Don worked for the Iowa City Community School District and The University of Iowa where he retired from in 1987.
In his free time, Don loved woodworking, attending the Old Threshers Reunions and spending time with his family. He lived his life “one day at a time” for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife Donna of Iowa City, five children: son Gary (Melinda) Quint of Charles City, IA, daughter Connie Ward Berends (Donald) of Coralville, IA, son Michael Quint (Roger) of Dallas Center, IA, daughter Cindy Slutts (Kevin) of Iowa City and daughter Mary Lovetinsky of Iowa City; sister Margaret Mangrich of Winthrop, IA; sisters-in-law: Joan Quint of Independence, IA and Alice Quint of Marshalltown, IA; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father Carl Quint, two brothers: Nick Quint and Howard Quint; two sisters: Dorothy Soppe and Marie Quint; and a son-in-law Bill Ward.
