Edward “Ed” K. Madden, 73, died peacefully Monday, January 30, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9am, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Mercy Hospital Foundation for Mercy Hospice or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Ed was born March 15, 1938 in Iowa City, the son of Edward and Velma Hora Madden. On February 11, 1961 Ed married Mary Jayne Lekin.

Ed served his country in the US Navy from 1956-59.

Ed was a truck driver for 42 years. He drove for CRST, RUAN Milligan Brothers and Iowa Tankers. In 2002 Ed retired and began delivering boats, with his friend Harry Rogers, for GS Marina.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. Ed served as vice president for the Retired Eagles Activity Club. Ed and Mary Jayne loved to dance. He enjoyed the friendships he developed with his breakfast buddies.
Ed is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Fluaitt and Tracy (Lloyd) Kimber, both of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Drew, Dylan and McKenzie Fluaitt and Sydney Ingram; his sister, Sandra Hora of Oxford and his brother, Richard Madden (Colleen Clegg) of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Velma, his wife, 3 sisters and their spouses, Shirley (Orville “Smitty”) Smith, Patricia (Jim) McLaughlin and Cathy (Gary) Fisher, his brother-in-law George Hora and in-laws, Vince and Irene Lekin.
