Kalona Woman Succumbs at 80

Kalona - Mrs. Catherine Swartzendruber Stutzman, 80, a resident of the Kalona area all her life, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday in a Wellman nursing home.

Mrs. Stutzman was born in Johnson county January 12, 1879, the daughter of George and Mary Shetler Swartzendruber. Her husband, John A. Stutzman, preceded her in death in 1937.

Four brothers and seven sisters also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three nieces who were reared in her home, Mrs. Chris Yoden, of Wellman, Mrs. Clarence Hostetler, of Kalona,, and Mrs. Truman Gingerich of Parnell.

The body is at the Peterseim funeral home and will be taken to the Hostetler home at noon Saturday. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite church with A. Lloyd Swartzendruber and J. John J. Miller officiating. Burial will be in the East Union cemetery.
