George Kondora, 95

George Kondora, Sr.,, 95, formerly of 330 North Lucas St., died this morning at the Solon Nursing Care Center.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Donohue-Lensing at the Donohue-Lensing funeral home, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Wingate will officiate.

Mr. Kondora was born Nov. 30, 1896, in Iowa City, son of Albert and Mary Vanous Kondora. He married Florence Moore June 23, 1923, in Iowa City. A lifelong resident of Iowa City, he was a cement finisher for many years at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1967. He also worked construction for J.H. Hunzinger Construction Co., and Note Moore, Sr., Construction Co. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. He was a US Army veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his wife, Florence, of Solon; one son, George Kondora, Jr., of Iowa City; three sisters, Mayme Sherman, Agnes Moore and Mary Hemstead, all of Iowa City; two brothers, Art Kondora of Iowa City and Tony Kondora of Branson, Mo.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
