Bert E. Swartz, 93, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 in Iowa City. A lifelong Davenporter, he had been living with his daughter and son-in-law in Iowa City for the past two years.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport. Refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music program of First Presbyterian Church or to Iowa City Hospice. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Bert was born December 19, 1918 in Davenport, the son of Henry and Bertha (Steuben) Swartz. He married Ellen Lyon on July 19, 1946 in Rock Island.
Bert worked for many years as a pattern maker. His memberships included First Presbyterian Church, the National Rifle Association, the Blackhawk Hiking Club/Tuesday Walkers and the Retired Pattern Makers’ Breakfast Group.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Robin (Rick) Chambers of Iowa City; Mark (Sarah) Swartz of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Craig (Debra) Swartz of Waukee, Iowa, Al Swartz of Cedar Rapids, Bill Swartz of Davenport and Dan (Kathy Lange) Swartz of Blue Grass. He has five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three older sisters, Louise Swartz and Wave Heald of Davenport and Mae McDonald of Delmar.
