Barbara Howell , 72, of 812 Kirkwood AvenueIowa City, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at her home following a brief illness.

Memorial Services will be held with burial Wednesday at 2:00 pm, September 17, 2003 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Welsh Church, American Cancer Society or the donor’s choiceParkinson’s Research.

Born April 20, 1931 ,in Plainfield, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Robert and Jessie Weller Anson. On July 30, 1962, Barbara married John Howell in New York City.

Barbara and John moved to Iowa City in 1985, where he was the International Studies Bibliographer at the University of Iowa Libraries.

She graduated from Scotch Plains High, School in Scotch Plains, NJ. She received her bachelor's degree from Guilford, New Jersey, and was a graduate of Gilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Barbara worked for a number of libraries before moving to Iowa. Barbara and John moved to Iowa City in 1985 where he was the International Studies Bibliographer at the University of Iowa Libraries.

Quilting, reading and classical music were of special importance in Barbara’s life. She enjoyed nature and had taken classes at the Iowa City Senior Center.

She is survived by her sister- in- law, Florence Anson of Wescosville, Pennsylvania; two nephews, Robert and Thomas Anson; and two nieces, April Anson and Karen Szczepanski.

Her parents; husband, John; and her brother, Thomas J. Anson, preceded her in death.
