John 'Richard' Denson age 85 of 922 Aspen Court died on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September, 16, 2003 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, burial will be at the Lenox Cemetery rural Norway. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given to the Neil Denson Nature Preserve or to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Online condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandciha.com.
John Richard Denson was born December 19, 1917 in Homestead, Iowa the son of Robert R. and Edna E. (Reid) Denson. He attended rural Iowa County Schools and graduated from Oxford High School in 1934. He married Dolores Uthoff in January of 1947, they were later divorced. On November 23, 1976 he married Maxine Krummenoehl. Richard was a life long resident and farmer in the Homestead Community until his retirement when he moved to Coralville and then to Iowa City. Richard was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church. While in Iowa City he faithfully attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with his wife Maxine. He was a member Eagles Lodge # 695 in Iowa City the Canopy Lodge # 290 AF & AM and the Agnes Parrin Chapter of the Eastern Star in Oxford where he received his fifty year pin. Richard was a charter member of the Samuel J. Kirkwood Society and a charter member of the R.E.A.C.
His family includes his wife Maxine of Iowa City, sons: Robert Denson and wife Pat of Calmar, Iowa, Morris Denson and wife Jutta of Marengo, daughters Marian Wetjen of South Amana, Ellen McVey and husband James of Midland, Michigan, stepsons, Kim Krummenoehl Armstrong and wife Terry of Tiffin, Iowa, David Krummenoehl and wife Lorena of Iowa City, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren, two sisters Florence Campbell and husband Cloyce of La Crosse, Wisconsin and Frances Leonard and husband Jack of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brother in-law Vincent Muth of Hawarden, Iowa, sister in-law Lucille Virginette Moerer and husband Gene of Hemet, California.
His parents, son Neil, two sister’s in-law and two brother’s in-law preceded him in death.
