Helen E. Nandell, age 86, of 706 5th Avenue, Coralville died on Monday, July 28, 2003 at her home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City; burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given to the Johnson County Senior Dinning Center or to Iowa City Church of Christ. Online condolences may be sent to her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.
Helen was born on November 21, 1916 in Iowa City the daughter of Arthur S. and Mila Bartholomew Huffman. She graduated from Iowa City, City High School in 1937 and married Harold R. Nandell on June 2, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Iowa City and moved to their new house in Coralville in the fall of 1958. Helen was a mother and homemaker for her family until Harold’s death in 1969. After his death she worked in the Central Sterilizing Services at the University of Iowa until she retired in 1983. Helen was a member of the Iowa City Church of Christ in Iowa City, a fifty year member of the Women of the Moose #509 and the Academy of Friendship; Carnation Rebekah Lodge #376 where she served as past Noble Grand.
Her family includes her son: Robert and wife Diane Nandell of West Des Moines, her daughter Jeanette and husband Dennis McCall of Monticello, ten grandchildren, six great-grandsons and one brother Donald and wife Kay Huffman of Las Vegas, Nevada, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband, Harold; four brothers: George, Robert, Howard, Kenneth Huffman; and one son, Charles Nandell, preceded her in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Helen’s family and her services.
