Esther Escher, 83, of 1403 Kenai Court in Coralville, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2003 at University of Iowa Healthcare in Iowa City.

Services will be held Thursday, July 10th at 1:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Oak Hill. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Research at The University of Iowa.

Esther was born March 10, 1920, in Mason City, the daughter of Anthony & Cynthia (Thieson) Waslick. She attended schools in Mason City. Esther married Fred Escher on January 7, 1950, in Austin, Minnesota.

Esther worked for many years as a waitress and in the laundry / dry cleaning business, including Mason City Laundry and Marshall & Swift Laundry and Dry Cleaning. She & her husband moved to Coralville in 1991.

She is survived by her husband Fred of Coralville; three daughters, Sharon Kopps of Des Moines, Patricia Sheeley & her husband Leroy of Ft. Dodge and Terry Escher of Coralville; a granddaughter, Melissa Sheeley; two great-granddaughters, Lacey N. Sheeley and Hannah E. Freese; two nephews and three nieces.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents and a brother John.
