Evelyn “Billie” Bouschlicher, 98 died in the company of her family Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Family services will be at a later date.

Evelyn Hope Turner was born November 8th, 1912 in Monmouth, IL to Charles Lewis Turner and Cora Cline Turner. Evelyn, known to her friends as “Billie,” graduated from the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton where she met her husband Harold. Billie and Dr. Harold A. Bouschlicher were married August 15th 1936 following his graduation from the National College of Chiropractic. Harold and Billie purchased a home in Clarence in 1936 which served as an office and residence for the next 67 years. Harold’s office occupied the front two rooms where he practiced for 64+ years, but Billie held sway over her domain in the back of the house. Billie and Harold were active in their community all those years and opened their home to many people who were in need. Billie also worked outside the home at the Clarence Nursing Home for many years. Billie was an avid reader, she enjoyed exercise, especially brisk walks, and she lavished attention on her pets. She was a good cook and will be especially remembered for her great lemon meringue pie. Although her visual handicap may have limited her, it never seemed that way to others. However, it undoubtedly shaped her indomitable spirit and independent nature. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She was still delivering memorable lines during her last week of life. Billie moved to Iowa City in 2004 where she resided in independent living at Melrose Meadows until February of this year.

Survivors include her son Dr. Murray Bouschlicher and his wife Lori Ziegenhorn; three grandchildren Nevin (Maria) Bouschlicher, Armand (Kellie) Bouschlicher and Barbara Mitchell; five great grandsons; two sisters, Virginia Mattox and Jean Sampson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, and two brothers Maurice Turner and Charles Weldon Turner.

Memorials can be sent to Hospice of Iowa City.
