Clair A. Yeggy, age 79, of Riverside, Iowa died at his home Sunday, July 6, 2003 following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm today at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Clair A. Yeggy was born December 4, 1924 in Riverside, Iowa the son of Henry and Murine (Bigley) Yeggy. He graduated from Lisbon High School, Lisbon, Iowa in 1944. He served in the United States Army and later in the National Guard during World War II and the Korean Conflict. On December 25, 1949, he married Doris L. Russ in Dillon, South Carolina. Following his military career, he was employed by Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Maryland, upon returning to Iowa he and his family farmed near Solon for a number of years, and later moved to the Riverside area. He was employed by the University of Iowa in Iowa City and later returned to his farming.

To those that knew Clair you knew his strong convictions for the Republican Party, and his love for his family, farming and John Deere Tractors.

His family includes his wife, Doris; sons, Clair Jr. and his wife, Debbi Yeggy of Riverside, Tony and his wife, Annette Yeggy of North Liberty, Iowa, and Gerard Yeggy of Lone Tree, Iowa; daughter, Theresa Yeggy of Otter Creek, Maine; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Buskey, Ronda Talley, Dawn Yeggy, Alicia Yeggy, Tony Yeggy II, and Kelly and her husband, David Rotzinger; and his sister, Marjory Eichorn of Marshalltown, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
