Virginia Tucker Wilson, 91 years old, died peacefully in her sleep January 30, 2011 in her Oaknoll home. Born in Minneapolis, MN, May 14, 1919 to Earl and Beth (Bauter) Tucker, she attended the University of Minnesota before moving to New York City to study opera performance. In 1944 she married John Wilson and together they embarked on career paths that allowed them access to their favorite hobbies of shell and rock collecting, golfing, swimming and boating. They lived in gloriously beautiful settings, including Honolulu and Maui, San Francisco and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Prior to her retirement, Virgina had a rewarding nineteen year career at Dow Chemical Company in northern California. She and John retired to Coeur d’Alene and then returned to Hawaii. Eight years after John’s death in 1987, Virginia moved to Iowa City, IA to live close to her nephew and his family. Reading was her lifelong passion, creative activities (music, sewing and writing) were her necessities, love of her family and friends her anchor. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Budge of Moraga, CA, and nephews and nieces in California and Arizona, as well as her nephew Jim Tucker and wife, Laura, of Iowa City, and their family. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother Robert Tucker.
