John Allen Watson, 75, of Iowa City died peacefully Friday, January 28, 2011 at
home surrounded by family.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Monday, January 31, 2011 at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City. The family will greet friends after 9 am at
the Church. Graveside committal will be Tuesday at 11 am at Sacred Heart
Cemetery in Ft. Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa
City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240. Arrangements are with
Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City.

John was born August 24, 1935 in Ft. Madison, the son of Henry and Margaret
Hermes Watson. He married Mary Jo Krogmeier on June 7, 1958 in Ft. Madison.

John received his BA from Parsons College, his MA from Western Illinois
University and his PhD in Educational Administration from the University of
Iowa. Following his start as a teacher in Ft. Madison, he served as an
administrator in Oelwein, Muscatine and Cudahy, Wisconsin, where he retired from
educational service in 1996.

John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, the Elks Club and
had served on the Parks and Recreation Commission in both Iowa City and
Muscatine. In 2007, John was honored by being inducted into the Ft Madison
Sports Hall of Fame for his many letters in football, baseball, basketball, and
track.

Along with participation in the activities of his grandchildren, John liked to
jog, dance, play tennis, golf, and bridge. He loved the time spent with family,
especially family vacations to Sunset Beach, NC. and visiting Presidential
Libraries.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Krogmeier) Watson of Iowa City and their
six children, Kevin (Wen Ling) Watson of Cerritos, CA, Cara (Terry) Fuller and
Dana (Ken) LaRue, both of Muscatine, IA, David Watson of Zionsville,PA, Margaret
(Doug) Evans and Charles (Kristin) Watson, both of Iowa City; 14 grandchildren:
Justin, Kailey, Taylor, Jillian, Brittany, Aron, Rachel, Alex, Michelle, Johnny,
Rochelle, Mollie, Amelia and Gwen; great grandson Coen; his sister Virginia
(Jerry) Ludden of East Lansing, MI.
