Richard D. “Dick” Krattet, age 75 of 705 6th Avenue, Iowa City, died Monday, June 23, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend David Schuldt officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where Masonic Memorial Services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established in Dick’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Dick’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Dick was born August 2, 1927, in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Howard E. and Eleanor E. (Mitchell) Krattet. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School, Robbinsdale, Minnesota in 1945. He lived in California. On August 15, 1965, Dick married Norma Jean Marceron in Iowa City. Three years later they moved to Iowa City where Dick worked for the University of Iowa in the Zoology Department and at the Oakdale Campus.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as the Past Master of the Iowa City A.F. & A.M. No. 4, Past Master of Canopy Lodge No. 290 of Oxford, served as District Lecturer, Past President of the Past Master’s Club, Past High Priest of the Iowa City Chapter No. 2, Past Grand Captain of the Host of The Grand Chapter of Iowa, Past Illustrious Master of the Swafford Council No. 28, Past Commander of Palestine Commandery No. 2, member of Iowa Past Commanders Association, Treasurer of Iowa City York Rite, Secretary of District No. 6 York Rite, Recognition Knight of the Royal Arch, Knight of Ish Sodi, Treasurer of the Masonic Service Club, and was recently installed as Governor of the Iowa York Rite College No. 37 on June 14, 2003.

Dick’s family includes his sister and her husband, Janice “Jan” and Rex Frazer of Leavenworth, KS; two nieces and their husbands, Teri and Steven Maxwell of Leavenworth, KS, and Tami and Rob Jassey of Ft. Bliss, TX; and ten great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Norma, on December 16, 1989.
