Allan C. Sweeting 60, of Iowa City died Friday December 10. 2010 at Mercy Hospital .
A Service to celebrate Allan’s Life will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the Allan Sweeting Memorial Fund has been established.
Allan was born August 28, 1950 in Iowa City, the son of Carl and Maxine Koob Sweeting. He was a 1969 graduate of City High School and served in the US Army in Viet Nam as a paratrooper. On October 26, 1974 Allan married Michelle Cullinan in Cedar Rapids.
Allan had been employed for over 35 years in facilities management at the University of Iowa.
Throughout the years Allan has been a devoted Iowa City Jaycee. He was honored to be nominated by the Jaycees as a Jaycee Senator, a lifetime award. Allan was Jaycee Senator 45167. As Senator he served as President of Region V and advised local chapters. Allan was a Harley enthusiast and enjoyed playing euchre and bowling. He had a wonderful sense of humor.
Allan is survived by his wife Michelle and their three children, Jamie of Coralville, Katie (Mat) Anderson of Davenport and Shaun of Iowa City; two grandchildren Cameron “Peanut” and Alexis; his parents, Carl and Maxine of Iowa City; four siblings, Tonya Pierce of Iowa City, Noble (Rochelle)Sweeting of Cedar Rapids, Christine (Ron) Roe of Coralville and Scott (Deb) Sweeting of Iowa City; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Therese Cullinan (Dale Little),Tim Cullinan, Joseph (Tracy) Cullinan and Margueritte Cullinan (Mike Domke).
Allan was preceded in death by his grandparents and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Pierce, Kathleen Cullinan and Francis Cullinan.
