NORTH LIBERTY

Marty A. Osland, 44, of 70 Hawthorne Place, North Liberty, died Friday evening, May 23, 2003 of a massive heart attack.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend James Vrba, officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City at a later date. Friends may call from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, where there will be a parish vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Marty Osland Memorial Fund.

Marty Osland was born March 5, 1959, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Norman A. and Betty A. (DeVilder) Osland. He grew up in the Midwest and graduated from high school in Gardner, Kansas, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He moved to Iowa City in 1983. He was employed by Frohwein Office Supply Company. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Richardson on January 29, 2000, in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he served as a lector and sacristan.

Marty is survived by his wife, Rebecca Sue Richardson-Osland of North Liberty, his son, Alan Jones of Des Moines, his step-daughter, Melisa Roush and Randy of Newton, three grandchildren; Haley, Shania and Jusson of Newton, his mother, Betty Osland of Iowa City, one brother, Scott Osland and Jean of Iowa City, his sister, Diane Crossett and Steve of Coralville, his mother-in-law, Beatrice Richardson of Baxter, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Marty was preceded in death by his father, Norman A. Osland.

Marty thoroughly enjoyed life, his family, golf and had a tremendous love of all sports. Marty was liked by all and will be truly missed.
