Dean Evans, age 74 of rural Windham died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Hardin Township Cemetery near Windham. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Dean’s memory. Mr. Evans was born July 13, 1928, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Russell and Zella (Stimmel) Evans. He attended Iowa City City High School, and for many years was employed with Farm Service of Johnson County. He was married to Alice E. Bently, and later to Shirley Blaha.

His family includes his children, Becky Evans of Williamsburg, Doug and his wife, Mary Evans of Iowa City, Candy and her husband, Gene Hawkins of Marengo, Chad Evans of Windham, Tracey Evans and Lorie Ferring of Windham, Blaine Evans of Windham, Bart Evans and Merna Spilger of North Liberty; brothers and their wives, Robert and Bonnie Evans of Windham, and Rodney and Pauline Evans of Oxford; grandchildren, Christine Evans, Travis and Keri Evans, Walker Evans and Melissa Butcher, Zachary Evans, Marina Evans, Anna Sparrow-Evans, and Hunter Rose Slyvester; great-grandchildren, Jacob Evans, Faith Evans, Hope Evans, and Eliza Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Marc Evans, infant son, Neal Evans, sister, Louise Lewis, and his two wives.
