Elizabeth J. “Betty” Voyce, age 80, of 44 Highland Drive, Iowa City died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Memorial services will held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Sister Agnes Giblin officiating. Following these services there will be a gathering of family and friends for refreshments at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Special Olympics or the University of Iowa Raptor Center. Elizabeth Jean Lamb Voyce was born January 25, 1923, in Ironton, Minnesota the daughter of Edward A. and Justine J. (Fox) Lamb. She received her schooling at St. Catherine’s School in St. Paul, MN. On November 25, 1950, she married Thomas M. Voyce in Clinton, Iowa. The couple and their family moved to Iowa City in 1962. For many years Betty worked in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1988.

Betty enjoyed her bridge playing, golfing and fishing. She volunteered at the University of Iowa Rapture Center and the Coralville Library.

Her family includes her husband, Tom; daughters, Jessica Voyce of Iowa City, Elizabeth Moeller of Wichita, KS, and Mary Anderson of Owasso, OK; sons, Charles Voyce of Ft. Meyers, FL, and Thomas E. Voyce of England; twelve grandchildren, and a sister, Donna Jo Marshall of Clinton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Edward Lamb, sisters, Viola Zeece, Patricia Crary, and Sister Avila of the Holy Angels Academy in Minneapolis, MN.
