Regina C. Tompkins, 92, formerly of 1604 Glendale Road, Iowa City, died Wednesday evening, April 2, 2003, at the Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Reverend Michael Phillips, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Cosgrove. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where there will be a parish rosary at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous or Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center.

Regina C. Tompkins was born June 10, 1910, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Mary Ellen (Burns) Schneider. She was united in marriage to Richard R. Tompkins May 9, 1933 in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Iowa City, where she was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Regina especially enjoyed continuing on the family tradition of caring for friends and neighbors in good times and bad.

Regina is survived by her daughter, Bonita Jean Tompkins of Iowa City, a teacher in the Lisbon Community Schools, her brother, Francis “Effie” Schneider of Iowa City, sister, Rita Eckrich of North Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Tompkins, July 30, 1993, and an infant daughter Mary Ellen Tompkins, 1934.
