Alice M. Lenoch Barkalow, 81, of Iowa City, died peacefully Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at her home with her family beside her.
Alice was born August 10, 1928 in Iowa City, the daughter of T. Leo & Mildred (Bragg) Moore. A lifelong Iowa City / Coralville resident, Alice graduated from City High School in Iowa City. She married Clyde Lenoch January 11, 1946 in Iowa City. Clyde died in 1975. In 1977, Alice married Ron Barkalow in Kirkwood, Missouri. Ron died in 2008.
She was a cook at the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 18 years and Mercy Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1993. Alice was a member as well as past-president of the Iowa City Eagle’s Lodge, Iowa City VFW and American Legion Auxiliary (Iowa City & Coralville), a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, a past member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Iowa City Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her children, Betty Beardshear of Iowa City, Susan Netser-Willcox (Garry) of Washington, Iowa, Kris Zimmerman (Mike) of Menomonie Falls, Wisconsin, Jim Lenoch of Iowa City, Marcheale Poggenpohl (Terry) of Meridian, MS, Ruth Brenneman (special friend Kyle Schubert) of Marengo and Amy Grostic (Chris) North Liberty;
grandchildren, Angie, Kim, Chris, Melissa, Mike, Heather, Clint, Colleen, Josh, Abby, Ryan, Jamie, Katie, Kendall, Korby, Kurtis and April: great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Jake, Olivia, Trevor, Travis, Tanner, Mason, Alex, Carson, Hailey, Ethan, Kristian, Jacey, Rae and Kolton:
sisters, Leila Heaton of Coralville and Etta Wolfe Brown of Silvis, IL. and her dog Harley.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, brother Patrick Moore, sister Sylvia “Ilene” Holbrook, a great-granddaughter Devin and son in laws, Larry Beardshear and David Brenneman.
