George Maxey, 90, of Coralville died July 26, 2010. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Friday, July 30, 2010 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Doyle officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 6pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
George was born July 15, 1920 in Iowa City, the son of George D. and Mary E. Farnsworth Maxey. He was a 1938 graduate of City High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. George married Margaret Hinchliffe on August 26, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City.
George was employed by the US Postal Service and served as the Postmaster of North Liberty, until his retirement in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret; his nephew, Hal (Leslie) Hinchliffe of Minneapolis; his niece, Pat (Merle) Berry of Salt Lake City; grand nephew and niece, Vince (Tiffany) Hinchliffe and Amelia Emery ; and great great nephew, Cash Hinchliffe.
