Margaret G. Fox, 98, died June 10, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 15 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd. in Coralville, IA. Memorials may be directed to The University of Iowa Margaret Fox Presidential Scholarship for Study Abroad, The Margaret G. Fox Scholarship at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City or New Horizon’s United Methodist Church.
Margaret was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 31, 1912, the daughter of George and Ethel (Jacobs) Fox. She was a faculty member at The University of Mn-Duluth, West Virginia University, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ansty College, Birmingham, England, and The University of Iowa where she was awarded a PhD in 1949 and was a full professor and department head. She was also a member of many honorary societies and professional organizations. Margaret loved to travel, making her way to every continent over the course of 20 years. She also loved to collect antique dolls, and do intricate needle work.
Margaret is survived by her three nieces: Marcia Urseth, Marilyn Steinman (Duncan) and Meredith Smith, seven grand nieces and nephews, 9 grand-grand nieces and nephews, a foster daughter Phyllis Jean Zuke, three grandchildren: Gary Stewart, Brian Stewart and Erica Neuzil, 6 great-grandchildren and special friends Marilyn and Eldon Hanson and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
